My grandmother used to take me for walks in the woods teaching me all about nature. We’d do creative projects together - sometimes using materials found throughout our adventures. I believe this was the foundation of my artistic journey. I love creating in any capacity, but am most passionate about making beads, collecting beads and learning about different types of beads and their cultural history. I find inspiration from organic colors, textures and materials as well as from indigenous cultures from around the globe.
As a Studio Art major in college in the late 90’s I was fortunate in my formal education to be exposed to and inspired by some amazing artists. This provided me with an opportunity to grow and flourish as an artist myself, drawing, painting and designing. At that time my preferred medium was charcoal for drawing portraits and the human body as well as ceramics. I took several wheel throwing classes and spent hours upon hours refining my own technique. As president of the ceramics club I learned about running an art studio, managing a shared space, the supplies, and the people who use it.
In 2005 I discovered that glass is ‘my medium’ when I learned how to make glass beads in a series of lampworking classes. Since then I’ve explored many other techniques in an attempt to appease my desire to create because I did not have the studio space or capacity to dedicate to glass bead making. Life evolves and I’m now in a place where I can commit to finally making my dream of having a glass bead making studio a reality.
I am passionate about living a healthy lifestyle, mindful of ourselves as well as our planet and every living being on it. For this reason I avoid being wasteful by collecting found materials and saving materials that would otherwise be thrown in the trash. Some might call me a ‘pack-rat’ but I’m very organized about it. I also enjoy making paper which is another way to use all sorts of found objects. Then that paper can be used in everything from card making to jewelry making.
I have an Etsy shop where I hope to share my passion for beads, jewelry, nature and health by offering artistic, unique and mindful products at price points that are affordable for everyone. If customers can’t find it, it doesn’t exist.
